Low Income Housing Energy Assistance Program
(LIHEAP)
The Special Programs Director, Mercedes A. Bernard, of the Assumption Parish Police Jury Department of Housing and Community Development would like to announce availability of Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP & LIHWAP) funding.
LIHEAP & LIHWAP is an energy and water assistance program that provides eligible low-income households with help paying their energy and water bill. Based on 60% State Median Income. State Median Income estimates are developed by the United States Census Bureau. Currently, eligible applicants in Louisiana may receive up to three (3) benefits per year (Liheap only) depending on each applicant’s circumstances. Once during the heating months (November – March), once during the cooling months (April – October) and a Disconnect Notice is once a year. Applications are taken on a first come, first serve basis. Applicants must provide the following information when applying for assistance.
• Electric and Water bills no older than 30 days
• All check stubs from the previous 30 days for all household employment
• Proof of unearned income
• Disconnect or Pending Disconnect Notice
• Proof of present address
• Driver’s License or Government issued photo ID of applicant and Social Security card
• Prof of total members living in your household and their Social Security cards
Names are taken the first working day of each month starting at 8:00 a.m. (except when the first working day of the month falls on a holiday or weekend, then names are taken on the next working day) by TELEPHONE ONLY at 985-369-2026 until lists are full.
