Well Blowout Incident

On Sunday, August 29, 2010, an assessment was made of the section of LA 70 that was closed and after the removal of equipment, the cleaning and inspection of the roadway; LA 70 was re-opened at 6:00 pm.

The clean-up is continuing and is expected to take six months before completion. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality will monitor the clean-up operations. Monitoring of the dike areas is being performed to prevent contamination to areas outside of the affected area. The freshwater diversion projects have been established and will continue to keep fresh water out of the contaminated area.

Work is continuing in the area around the relief well and the clean-up site off of LA 70. Motorist should still proceed in the area with caution due to trucks entering onto LA 70 from the site and/or field area.
