
On June 15, 2009, Governor Bobby Jindal announced that 53 parishes will share more than $565.5 million is federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to aid their recoveries from hurricanes Gustav and Ike, which caused widespread housing and infrastructure damage across the state last year.
The biggest portion of this funding goes directly to the parishes affected by the storms, with the level of damage dictating each parish’s individual allocation. The remainder of the total federal allocation will be used statewide to aid the fishing and agricultural sectors, create affordable housing, and improve coastal protection.
Parish damage level were derived for each parish based on the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) analysis of FEMA damage assessments, The parishes in the top ten of the ranking are listed below:

Below are links to the Assumption Recovery Proposal Form for public review. The HUD proposal requires citizen participation in order to expend disaster CDBG funds. Public meetings aim to engage and solicit input from citizens in the identification of recovery priorities and the development of a recovery program. Assumption parish has already held two public hearings, the first on April 22, 2009 and the second on June 10, 2009. A third hearing will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 5:50 p.m. in the Police Jury meeting room (4813 Hwy 1, Napoleonville).
